Adult Basic and Literacy Education
Four County's Adult Basic and Literacy Education Program is for all adults who wish to improve their academic or English speaking skills.
Over 100,000 adults took part in Ohio's ABLE Program last year, and 15,000 received their GED.
Nearly 8,000 of those participating went on to further their education.
Sponsored by the Ohio Department of Education, ABLE is free and open to the public. Classes are held throughout the four county area. Companies needing more highly skilled employees, may call to set up ABLE classes on site.
New students may start at any time and complete the program at their own pace. (A current schedule and location of classes appears below.) Each student is given an assessment in reading, math, and language that will determine which level of materials is appropriate. Instructors work with students one-on-one by assigning lessons and checking the progress of students' work. Work may also be done in groups. Classes are informal and unstructured.
Need Your GED?
If you are at least 19 years of age, have not completed high school, and a legal resident of Ohio, you may take the GED test.
Orientation and testing are held on Mondays.
Please call to schedule an appointment.
You may take the GED test at no cost, if you have successfully passed an official GED practice test. Without the practice test, there is a fee. This practice test is given at the ABLE sites listed below. Please call the site nearest you to make arrangements.
You must apply to the State of Ohio to receive authorization to take the test. Any of the ABLE sites can provide the information about how to apply, or call the Adult Workforce Education Office.

Work Permits
Pre-Application Forms - Student (Minor), Employer, and School Use
To obtain a minor work permit, students/minors should use a pre-application form to gather the necessary information and approvals from their potential employer and from their parents or legal guardian. The form is filled out completely, signed, and is then taken to the minor's school where a permit is issued based on the information on the form. Anyone (student, employer, or school personnel), may print a copy of the form to begin the process of obtaining a work permit. In addition, the Physician's Certificate can be printed out for those minors that are required to take a physical for employment purposes. The forms are in PDF format.
